High School: JOSEPH, Naicheka

Place Grand Goave

Age 20

Gender Female

Grade 9

Name of School College Baptiste Maranatha

Naicheka is a 16 year old girl who is wise beyond her years! She has grown up watching her tireless mother juggle the domestic work of running the household, the laborious work of tending to the garden and the economic struggle of running a small fast food business outside their home. She looks up to her mother very much and has learned to be industrious from her.

Naicheka’s father is a fisherman by trade but has not been very successful in the past couple of years. The fishing industry has been hit hard by the price of gas and the relentless political unrest has caused fewer people to travel to the coast.

The family of nine lives in Grand Goave, in a small neighborhood by the ocean. Naicheka has always loved going to school and spends her spare time doing homework and studying with her friends. She doesn’t have a favorite subject but also can’t pick one that she doesn’t like. Naicheka’s goal is to graduate from High School and go on to college. She is hesitant to vocalize her goal though, because she knows that her parents are struggling to make ends meet and she may need to drop out of school to help keep the family afloat.

Helping Naicheka finish High School would instil this family with hope, and allow them to focus on the health & wellbeing of the family while not reducing the priority of education.
