Rose Mirka is a self-proclaimed business woman! She has been watching her mom run a small business out of their front porch for as long as she can remember and she says that she knows the prices of everything and can give change faster than anyone in the family! Her father buys a large block of ice each morning and sells shaved ice with syrup (snow cones) in the school yards and the market. When he comes to Rose Mirka’s school she encourages students to buy them.

 

Rose Mirka lives in Grand Goave with parents, sister & three brothers. They are a close family but have very little extended family... which is hard in Haiti because families often band together. They are, however, a very kind family that invests in relationships within their community and they are well liked by their neighbours.

 

Her parents, and older siblings, work hard to provide for the family and send the younger children to school but they struggle and education can’t take priority over the necessities. Rose Mirka is very bright and she has been able to pass each year… this is not an easy task and being 11 years old in grade 5 is quite an accomplishment.

 

Helping Rose Mirtha finish school will be an investment in the future of Haiti.
