The monthly amount needed to sponsor a student is divided into shares - each share is $10/month. You can choose to be the child's only sponsor and select all of the shares, or you can choose a portion of the shares and another sponsor(s) will take the remaining shares. During our interview with Darfendjina she told us that there is nothing she can’t do. She later admitted that sometimes she has to try a few times but eventually she did what she wanted to do. We love her confidence, and her determination!
Darfendjina has 8 older brothers and one younger sister. She is very close with her sister and enjoys helping her do her homework and teaching her how to do the chores properly.
Darfendjina’s parents have a garden and the whole family spends a lot of time working in it. Darfendjina’s favorite food is rice, bean sauce, and vegetables, and she says it tastes the best when the vegetables are from her garden.
We are excited to have the opportunity to support Darfendjina’s education as it is common for girls to drop out of school early to help with the domestic duties at home, especially in large families.
