Our Vision:

Our vision is for all families in Haiti to have access to education and have sufficient income to be able to provide for their family’s essential needs. We will work towards our vision by coming alongside families, and family units, in practical ways.

Our Mission:

Alongside is a charity dedicated to empowering families by increasing access to education through scholarships and by relieving poverty through small business loans.

Our Beliefs:

Our Directors believe and adhere to these beliefs, and all charity activities are conducted with them in mind.

  • We believe children deserve access to education, and keeping them in a family unit is integral for their development.
  • We believe empowering parents is the best way to build strong families. We believe strong families produce strong children, and strong children become strong parents.
  • We believe that before we are able to help empower those living in physical poverty we need to recognize the poverty in our own lives – it may not be material poverty, it may be spiritual or emotional poverty – and see ourselves as equals with those we are coming alongside to help.
  • We believe that it is imperative to build relationships, based on mutual respect, with those we want to empower in order to effectively break the cycle of poverty.
  • We believe in Jesus Christ and have put our faith in him; John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him”

Our Values:

Our Directors believe living Spirit-filled lives is the best way to build relationships - with each other, with those we serve, and with those who serve alongside us; Galatians 5:22-23, “The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

While acknowledging that we will always be a work-in-progress, our Directors strive to incorporate these values in every aspect of our personal life, as well as our leadership of Alongside.

  • We believe in showing Love; Romans 12:9-10, “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
  • We believe in finding Joy; Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again; Rejoice!”
  • We believe in seeking Peace; Colossians 3:15, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
  • We believe in being Patient; Psalms 75:2, “You say, ‘I will choose the appointed time; it is I who judge with equity.’”
  • We believe in being Kind; Colossians 3:12, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
  • We believe in being Good; Matthew 26:41, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
  • We believe in living Faithfully; Deuteronomy 7:9, “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.”
  • We believe in being Gentle; 1 Peter 3:15, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
  • We believe in having Self-Control; Proverbs 16:32, “Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.”
