We have an opportunity that may be exactly what you're looking for!

Our sponsorship program matches sponsors directly with a student. Before the student is approved for the program they fill out an application form, have an interview with one of Alongside's Program Administrators in Haiti, and their application package is reviewed & approved by Alongside's Board of Directors in Canada. After the student is approved for the program a supporter needs to be found before they can enrol in school. When a student is approved, but a supporter is not yet found, we consider them a student "in transit".

We believe the multi-step process is necessary but there is one aspect we would like to avoid. We would like to be able to enrol students in school as soon as they are approved, rather than waiting for a sponsor to be found. It is our priority to ensure the students, and their families, are empowered through the sponsorship program so it is important that the students feel their progress is tied to their merit, rather than someones willingness to help them.

In order to enrol students in school as soon as they have been approved, we need to find a few sponsors that are willing to sponsor "students in transit". We already have a sponsor for these students so we are now looking for a few more sponsors that could give a total of $200/month. It could be two sponsors giving $100/month each, four giving $50/month each, or another combination. This will allow us to have up to five students in transit at all times.

Mycha lives in Grand Goave with her parents & younger brother. While her brother hates going to school, Mycha is the opposite – she can’t wait to get out the door and go. She has a favorite doll that she likes to take with her and play with at recess. She knows not to play with it during class though because she knows that it will be taken away.
