Today is Small Business Saturday in Canada & the USA.

Covid-19 has really put local small businesses in the spotlight this year. They are suffering in the shadow of big companies that already had an established online presence and we are being encouraged to support them with our holiday shopping. 

But even in "normal" times, small businesses warrant your attention!

Small businesses are a country's backbone. They stimulate local economies, keep money close to home and support our neighbourhoods & communities.

In Haiti, we believe that small businesses play a key role in developing communities, empowering families, and paving the way for a brighter future for the next generation.

Renel & I have seen the affect small businesses have had on our friends and family in Haiti... it was one of the things that encouraged us to create Alongside Families in Haiti Society. You can read more about one of our experiences in Our Beginning.

A few weeks ago we sent out our first Small Business Report to those who had donated to the small business fund this year. It was so exciting to be able to report that six new businesses had been started so far this year and more than $1500 have been repaid and loaned back out again. This is more than we anticipated being able to accomplish in our startup year, and we are so grateful for your generosity! 

In the spirit of Small Business Saturday we would like to give you an opportunity to help us start two new businesses before the end of the year. We have two approved business applications that are pending funds: a motorcycle tap-tap ($1500) and a small grocery story ($650).

We didn't share the Small Business Report publicly because it contains personal information about loan recipients but if you would like to see the report (and I highly recommend it - the stories are impactful!) please email me, and I will send it to you directly.
